About the spot
The one everybody knows from the photo: Table Mountain across the bay, the southeaster blowing straight over it, wind most summer afternoons. You can get in anywhere between Sunset Beach and the northern end of Blouberg — after that it's Big Bay, a smaller and slightly more sheltered bay. The stretch from Dolphin Beach to Kite Beach is where you'll find the most kiters.
Hazards
The shorebreak can be heavy, and there's current. In summer the real issue is traffic on the water — on a good afternoon it's busy.

ECMWF via Open-Meteo · Forecast
Cape correction: The ECMWF model runs on a 9 km grid and cannot resolve the Cape’s thermal wind — so in wind from southerly to westerly directions (SE to W) it reads low. Only then do we show the model value times 1.15 (mean) and times 1.25 (gusts). In every other direction, such as the north-westerly frontal winds, we apply no correction — the model resolves those. The factors are our estimate from local knowledge (as of 17 September 2026), not a measurement; they will be replaced once the comparison with measured values is in. Above a 40 kn model mean we apply no correction.
